Mr Barr has had an outstanding career in the construction industry, both domestically in Australia and internationally in the Asia Pacific and Middle Eastern regions.
“John Holland has a proud history of operations in Australia, reaching back for nearly 70-years,” Mr Barr said.
“This vibrant and diverse heritage was one of the main factors that drew me to the company.
“I was also very encouraged by the commitment to John Holland’s future by our parent company, China Communications Construction Company International Holdings (CCCI).”
Mr Barr has already spent much of the last two months visiting John Holland operations in Australia and overseas.
“Having immersed myself in the day-to-day life of John Holland over the weeks prior to taking up my new role, I have enjoyed meeting the energetic and talented people who work for this company.
“I look forward to working together to achieve innovative solutions for customers and communities.
“This is an exciting time to be involved in the construction industry. John Holland is recognised and respected for its rail, infrastructure and building expertise and this provides an excellent platform along with the strength of our owners to further diversify and grow the business.
“Retiring CEO, Glenn Palin, has made an outstanding contribution to the business during his 23 years with John Holland, and has led the introduction of our new Development & Investments Group, allowing John Holland to become a truly integrated constructor and developer. It is exciting to consider the possibilities that this makes available to us.”
