Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital
This $105 million, four-level private hospital was built on a 1.2 hectare greenfield site on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.
The hospital includes six operating theatres, one day procedure room, one catheter laboratory, eight intensive care beds, eight day-oncology beds, 160 in-patient beds, commercial kitchen, pharmacy, specialist medical consulting suites and a comprehensive range of diagnostic services.
A collaborative delivery model provided the opportunity to make changes to the design, in response to the client's evolving requirements.
The project employed approximately 2,000 construction workers, approximately 60 per cent of which were from north of the Pine River. Community engagement initiatives included raising nearly $8,000 for the Daniel Morcombe Foundation, a locally started national foundation promoting child safety through safety BBQ’s and other site initiatives. Environmental awareness of the neighbouring Lake Kawana and the Mooloolah River catchment was also paramount.
The project team faced a multitude of challenges including managing a project in an area with no existing infrastructure, interfacing with adjacent works, unforeseen ground conditions and natural disasters. Despite such challenges, the team successfully delivered this crucial piece of health infrastructure for the Sunshine Coast community, both ahead of the contractual completion date and under budget.
