Ravenhall Prison Redevelopment
John Holland, in a consortium with GEO, Honeywell and Capella Capital, delivered a new Prison at Ravenhall in Melbourne’s west.
The project was delivered as a Public Private Partnership (PPP), with the consortium responsible for the design, construction, maintenance and operations, including custodial services. The local community played an important role in the prison’s development, with a community advisory group established to enable local input into planning the facility.
After mobilising to site in early 2015, the first stage of construction involved site environmental and heritage inspections followed by civil works including clearing, bulk earthworks and roadways.
Some of the key features of the new prison include the capacity for 1,300 medium security male prisoners, a 75-bed specialist forensic mental health unit, and enhanced pre and post-release programs and services to reduce reoffending.
