Darwin Airport Terminal
This project included the construction of a combined two-storey, international and domestic terminal building and all associated civil works such as car parking, aprons and taxiways. As Australia’s northern gateway, the redeveloped Darwin Airport has become a showpiece that is comfortable, practical and above all, functional.
The simple, yet elegant design resulted in an open-plan, functional terminal which tied in with the design of the existing structure. The main concourse, airline offices, check-in facilities and baggage reclaim are situated on the ground floor, with the main concession area, departure and VIP lounges located upstairs on the first floor, incorporating direct access to aircraft via aerobridge facilities.
Also constructed was an apron with parking provision for eight commercial aircraft, a general aviation apron providing 100 parking spaces for commuter, charter and private aircraft, and a taxiway to link the aprons with the runway. Car parking for 465 short-stay vehicles with dedicated areas for hire cars, taxis, staff and bus parking was also delivered. John Holland was also responsible for the interior fit-out of the terminal.
